Influence of Random Modulated Power Converter on G3 Power Line Communication

Power Line Communication (PLC) technologies are being used in many applications and offer the advantage of utilizing existing power cables for both data transmission, thus minimizing cost complexity. Nevertheless, PLC technology requires further investigation to solve possible co-existence issues. Indeed, recent studies confirmed that alternative modulation schemes such as Random Pulse Width Modulation (RPWM), applied switching-mode converters minimize conducted emissions, detrimentally interfere with system. This paper presents an experimental test campaign aimed at investigating effects RPWM on G3-PLC system, final goal understanding conditions under which can be considered effective conventional (PWM) involving systems. In details, different parameters switching frequency, index, Number Update Rate (RNUR) is investigated. addition, Frequency (RFM) Position (RPPM) compared terms performance so highlight best suited assure coexistence The impact communication channel evaluated Frame Error (FER), Channel Capacity, Capacity Loss metrics. Experimental results randomly modulated frequencies near bandwidth cause more significant disturbance issues than out this range. Results also show index RNUR have a direct effect channel. Moreover, trade-off between Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) reduction observed: RFM, very EMI reduction, found disruptive G3-PLC, random techniques RPPM.
